A note from the Director, Garry Stewart
"The Age of Unbeauty is a highly personal,
emotional response to the terror found in man's ability to act
inhumanely toward man. I do not intend to construct a definitive
or idealized reading to The Age of Unbeauty however
I invite you to find your own narrative and to allow your own
unique response to this work to emerge."
“The point of this work isn’t to recreate our traumatic
world. I’m more interested in positioning another point
of view that may not appear in documentary form or the six o’clock
news. Through theatre it is possible for people to think and feel
in a different way in contrast to how we automatically deflect
or conveniently compartmentalise the horror of the world as we
receive it through the media. In The Age of Unbeauty
I’ve been concerned with reinforcing the need for each other,
that in the end that is all we have. Our tenuous, fragile grapplings
toward each other are the true value of living.”
