Tanja Liedtke's TWELFTH FLOOR

Characters emerge and unravel in this darkly funny physical exploration of human interactions in confinement, set in a mysterious institution. Five extraordinary performers play out shifting relationships of desire and power, of hope and despair. A rich combination of dance, theatre, movement, video and DJ Tr!p's moody soundtrack make a sophisticated and original work, shifting effortlessly from tender, lyrical moments to brooding menace to explosive physicality.

Mischief awarded
Mischief - a show for children created by Theatre Rites with choreographer and dancer Authur Pita, won the only dance award presented by the Theatrical Management Association in their awards ceremony at the Hampstead Theatre last weekend (26 Oct.)
The other nominees in the Achievement in Dance category were Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, for Moon Water and Rambert Dance Company, for Carnival Of The Animals and Swansong. Mischief was described by the TMA as 'an enormously playful collage of movement, music and visual arts designed to delight the whole family'.
Sue Buckmaster, Artistic Director of Theatre Rites and Authur Pita met through the Jerwood Studio project at Sadler's Wells, which is described as 'a laboratory where dance can stretch its legs' - and the emphasis is firmly on research and development, allowing emerging and established artists the rare freedom to explore an idea with collaborators and dancers before any rehearsal period begins.
Director of the project Emma Gladstone said: 'It's wonderful that a work which started its creative life in our Jerwood Studio programme should receive such an award. Shows made for young audiences are rarely considered seriously next to shows for 'grown ups', so I think its great that the TMA have shown both awareness and vision in awarding recognition to this really inventive piece of work.'
Mischief was seen at the Peacock Theatre in London, as well as twelve venues around the UK at the end of 2007.
