The Jasmin Vardimon Dance Company (formerly Zbang Dance Company) was founded in London in 1997 and incorporated in 2000. The company is dedicated to the choreography of artistic director Jasmin Vardimon.
Vardimon has formed a strong and identifiable choreographic voice. Her work could be characterised to date by her tangible theatrical caging of violence, humour, and sexual passion through her acute human observance of physical behaviour and characters' interactions. Innovative video projections and culturally eclectic soundscapes are truly integrated into the theatrical whole. Her works are absolutely accessible through their exposure of human experience, the high quality of the work and performances of passion, skill and commitment. Her company's work has been performed at various festivals both nationally and internationally, touring to high profile theatres across the world.
Recent achievements include selection for participation in BBC Dance Film Academy (2004); A 15 night Run of Lullaby at The Place, London (2004); 'Best female artist' nomination for the Critics Circle National Dance Awards (2003); being a recipient of the prestigious Jerwood Choreography Award (2000); winning second prize in the International Mediterranean competition for choreography (Italy 2001), commissioned to choreograph for Transitions Dance Company, Barebones, Wapping power station, Welsh Independent Dance and CandoCo, as well as curating the first festival of dance at The Oval House in London.
Jasmin is currently a Yorkshire Dance Partner having previously been Associate Artist at The Place. Apart from her numerous awards, she has also been commissioned by: the Place Theatre, DanceXchange, Oval House, Kampnagel (Germany), Now 2000, The Green Room, and Lichfield Garrick.
In 2004 the company achieved status of Arts Council England Regular Funded Organisation. In 2005 the Jasmin Vardimon Dance Company is the first UK Company to be selected to tour the UK by the Dance Touring Partnership.
The company is supported by a steering group of dedicated members to become in 2005 the company's official board: Paul Everitt, Mairead Turner, Fabi Waisbort, Janet Walsh and Sian Phillips CBE.
Jasmin Vardimon Dance Company is committed to producing high quality, original dance theatre and developing the medium of dance through incorporating other artistic mediums and working with professional artists from different disciplines such as video artists, animators and musicians to consolidate the company's multimedia approach. Jasmin Vardimon Dance Company is committed to bring its innovative and accessible works to as wide an audience as possible.
Using a variety of dance theatre approaches Jasmin concentrates her work around observations of human behaviour and social definitions of health and sickness, deviance and morality. Vardimon touches upon subjects of concern to broad and varied sections of society by adopting a thematic approach which dictates the movement.
