Yorkshire Dance offering R&D opportunity

Posted: May 29, 2014

Call out for applications to Sketch

Sketch is a new artist development project for emerging dance makers with a commitment to working in Yorkshire. Yorkshire Dance are offering six artists the opportunity to develop their practice by researching and developing a new dance idea over a period of eight months, with the focus on dramaturgical practice.

Sketch supports artists with:

  • Intensive workshops with international dramaturge (Oct 2014 and Feb 2015)
  • Minimum of two weeks of studio space at Yorkshire Dance for research and development
  • Peer to peer learning and feedback
  • A fee of £1160 which includes your own fee both for time in the studio and attending the workshops and any related production costs
  • Public sharing or performance of research as part of Friday Firsts
  • Advice & guidance and 1-2-1 access to the Yorkshire Dance team

With this programme we want to work with artists new to us as well as continuing to support those we have already worked with. Selection will be done by a panel including expertise external to Yorkshire Dance.  Selection will take into account:

  • The originality and strength of the artistic idea
  • Your track record so far and indication of your talent and hunger to make work for an audience

How to apply:

You will need to complete an expression of interest. We have provided some guidelines below as to the kind of things we are interested in finding out:

–       Tell us about your idea: your idea should already be conceived and ideally you will have spent some time researching and developing it before applying to Sketch
–       Tell us about you: what kind of artist are you, give us details of your previous work, people /work you find inspiring and why you would be a good fit for this project
–       What you will do: as this is a time limited programme we suggest you think about how you will best use the time you have in the studio and outside the studio
–       Dramaturgy: why you are interested in dramaturgy to enhance your practice

Deadline for expressions of interest: Monday 23 June 2014
